Foot clearance using ultra wide band

With the increasing percentage of the elderly population in the world annually, healthcare issue such as occurrence of fall is expected during walking due to their physical condition. For example, the elderly will have poor balance or difficulty in walking due to their balance and gait (the way how...

For example, the elderly will have poor balance or difficulty in walking due to their balance and gait (the way how one walk) as ageing causes many changes to their neuromuscular system. Besides that, it also affects the mortality and morbidity rates of the elderly population. Thus, there is a need to see the mobility performance to improve and prevent this situation from happening. As it is important for gait analysis measurement system of the foot such that the foot clearance above ground is able to give a better and clear view on the relationship between the fall and gait. Human walking has a automated motor behaviour that is controlled by subcortical locomotors brain regions (the region of the brain below the cortex which controls the movement of the body). The execution of the walking motion is called the gait and it varies from person to person as it links to each individual's physical anatomy. While foot clearance is defined as the height of the foot during the swing phase. Therefore, in this project, the use of ultra wide band to measure the foot clearance will be investigated. This report will begin with the related background information of the project followed by the experiment made, problem encountered and the planned future work.
