Description
Summary:Underground development can help to free up land space effectively, and is hence extremely crucial to the land-scarce Singapore. In large cavern such as Jurong Rock Cavern, rock bolts are often used as a rock support method to enhance its stability. Hence, a better understanding of rock behavior as well as its interactions with rock bolts can help to facilitate the design and construction process of such projects. In this study, 30m x 45m rock cavern models with different joint orientations are created using the Discontinuous Deformation Analysis (DDA) software. Excavation of the cavern model is done sequentially in 3 parts, with rock bolts installed 0.1s afterwards. Through a numerical analysis, the changes in stress, displacement, and rock bolt forces are then obtained. With the data obtained, the influence of joint orientation on the rock cavern and its rock bolts will be determined. In addition, the efficiency of the rock bolts will also be discussed for each joint orientation used.
