Summary:This report documents the author’s final year project report and presents the work done on how a Hand Sign Language Translator for the hearing impaired and normal people are been developed. The objective of this project is to develop a hand sign language translator program, Happy Talk, for the database collection of the dictionary of hand sign language. Through an animated 3D model, the hearing impaired children can learn the basic of the ASL by using the program. The software platform used in this project will be the Visual Basic 6.0 for programming and interfacing. By connecting various application to the Graphical User Interface (GUI), the author is able to view various ASL video stored within the database. The author makes use of the video in the database to make learning of ASL an interesting ones. The software will improve the communication gap between the hearing impaired and the rest of the world. The hearing impaired child and their parent can learn ASL in an interesting ways through theme, quiz and song. At the same time, it will strengthen the bond between the children and their parent.
