Summary: | This report focuses on the exploration of the strength reduction of tubular K-joints under different loading conditions as well as with diverse surface crack. FE modelling is used to simulate the collapse of tubular K-joints subjected to axial loading. According to the analysis of load-deformation curves, a new deformation limit is found particularly for tubular K-joints. Based on the new deformation limit, a tension-to-compression factor is validated, of which helps the definition of tension ultimate strength for uncrack K-joints. Effect of Gap is else studied. In the discussion of cracked K-joints, two reduction formulas are deducted with the reference of BS7910:2005 for simple calculation of ultimate strength for cracked tubular K-joints. |
