Summary: | This presentation is to understand and study the physical phenomena about electricity generation by falling water. It is also called the Kelvin water dropper or Lord Kelvin's thunderstorm. This physical phenomenon was invented by British scientist William Thomson (Lord Kelvin) in 1867. The study will focus on how does different type of water, speed of water and other factors to affect the electricity generated by falling water itself.
As electricity became one of the most important resources to human beings and it drives almost everything in daily lives. It is necessary for engineers and scientists revisit the topic of electricity generation by other possible ways, such as using the water as new energy source and will not be having any pollution to environment and nature.
Electricity is formed by flow of electric charges, and it presences naturally in the water. The polarity of the electric charge depends on whether is there any excess of electrons, and it is normally uncharged for most substances. Water molecule is a very special structure due to its O-H bond and H-O bond, so that energy can be released from water molecules to free the electrons to separate the positive and negative charges. |
