Description
Summary:This report presents a large scale urban traffic simulation model that was based on Jurong East and Jurong West areas of the Jurong Lake District. PTV VISSIM, a microscopic, time-step oriented and behaviour-based simulation program, was the chosen simulation program in which the traffic simulation model was created. Each traffic junction in the model has its own signal controller for fixed time control of the signal lights. Traffic inputs and route settings were done by using the dynamic assignment module of VISSIM, whereby an OD matrix containing traffic flow data was used, and routes assigned dynamically to simulate real world driver’s routing behaviour. The distributed traffic light scheduling strategy was implemented in a simple unidirectional model via VISSIM-COM programing. Results showed that the traffic scheduling strategy is effective in reducing queue delay times for links with the higher traffic volume. Future work would be required to implement the strategy in the large scale urban simulation model.
