Description
Summary:Lighting plays an important part in our routine life. In places like office buildings, industrial parks, shopping malls, home and even air traffic control tower, consumer’s behaviour vary when it comes to the usage of commercial lighting. Energy tends to be wasted when the electrical bill is not borne onto them. Thus, this project will look into ways to reduce energy using current technologies with energy consumption management. Energy consumption will be measured through an Energy Monitoring System (EMS) to provide real time electrical energy usage data its user. The system will be hosted by a web server, indicating on a webpage the current energy usage from lighting consumption. With the integration of smartphones, realisation of this system is made possible using mobile application capability, by enhancing user convenience by allowing lighting control to work wirelessly. Besides smartphone control, a Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) will be introduced. This interface makes lighting available only if the RFID tag is present, hence it only allows the user’s allocated work area to be lighted. This allows specific lighting to be turned on therefore saving more energy and reducing unnecessary energy wastage. This project will discuss the feasibility to design and construct a commercially affordable smart lighting system. Regardless of lighting equipment type such as fluorescent tube (AC) or LED light bulb (DC), they can be implemented to this system. A commercial installation had been done and tested at Beng Beng Electrical Pte Ltd to provide real time assessment for this project realisation.
