Renewable energy is a growing industry in the current century, where people are getting more conscious towards environmental changes as well as carbon footprints. In Singapore, solar energy is the most feasible way to obtain clean and green energy due to its limited space as well as its location near the equator.
Due to its slow breakeven duration, photovoltaic systems need to be reviewed and improved on their own systems as well. This hence led to the design of transformer-less inverters.
This paper outlines a few issues regarding photovoltaic systems that are to be considered before installing a grid-tied transformer-less PV system. Those include leakage current issues and resolving them using various topologies. Different H bridge inverter variations are compared in an effort to reduce leakage current as well as increase the efficiency of the PV system.
The H6D2 inverter has shown good prospects in terms of leakage current elimination as well as reduced conduction losses as compared to the other inverters. Unipolar SPWM is also used to simulate the inverter as it results in lower total harmonic distortion content. |
