The wave generator will be used in a laboratory to generate waves in a controlled environment to recreate an oceanic environment, in order to enable further research into harnessing energy from ocean waves. The report consists of initial research into past studies, ocean waves’ properties, followed by research of existing designs and the analysis and testing of the original wave generator design. Due to flaws found in the original design, the project proceeded into a design and construction phase of a new wave generator was in process, so as to refine the original water wave generated. This includes conceptual and embodiment designs, before going through a material selection process. Detailed design drawings are also included in this report. The redesigned wave generator was put through a series of tests to ascertain that it was refined and capable of producing waves that have minimal interference. The results obtained indicated that the new design was indeed an improvement on the initial design, and further tests were conducted to determine the performance of the device. An in-depth analysis of the readings was done to better understand the data obtained. The resulting rig was able to produce waves that could simulate different oceanic conditions at a smaller scale. The report concludes by recommending improvements for future projects that will enhance the current design.
