Influence of Wi-Fi on bacterial growth and anti-biotic effect on bacteria
In this current age of technology, the use of Wi-Fi is a very common affair. We have Wi-Fi in shopping centres, train stations, homes etc. this exposes us to a lot of Wi-Fi radiation in our daily lives. It is unclear if Wi-Fi has a detrimental effect on our health and thus this project’s aim is to investigate the effect of Wi-Fi on bacteria specifically KP-01(Klebsiella Pneumoniae). The KP-01 will be cultivated in M9 in n96 plates and left to cultivate for 24hrs in two different conditions, one will be in a controlled temperature at 25°C with no Wi-Fi radiation, the other will also be exposed to a temperature of 25°C but with Wi-Fi radiation and the endpoint of their growth will be recorded and analysed via the spreading method. It was suspected that Wi-Fi radiation would have no effect on bacterial growth which was the case in this experiment. A flow cell experiment will be done as well to test the effect as well with anti-biotics introduced to some channels. Lastly, and experiment is done to test the strength of the Wi-Fi at various distances. The results showed there was no effect in the growth of bacteria but had an effect on anti-biotic action on bacteria. The report will also discuss the experimental results as well as give future recommendations to improve the experiment.
