Summary: | Earth's climate is changing, and it is changing for the worst unless the world’s billions of tons of greenhouse gas emissions decrease substantially. The need to solve this crisis has led to an interest in many green technology and one in particular, adsorption-based cooling holds a potential to be the greenest technology. The zero-emission process utilizes low temperature waste heat ranging from 50 to 95°C for producing cooling effects and desalinated water as its byproduct. The system consist of an evaporator, two sorption beds, a condenser and it makes use of silica gel – water as working pair to generate useful effects. This work investigates the performance of adsorption system in terms of cooling capacity, coefficient of performance, specific daily water production and performance ratio. The experimental results showed that the cooling cycle which uses the heat source of 85°C with sorption time of 600s can produce up to 17.3 Rton/ton of cooling at 9.5°C with a COP of 0.104 while the same adsorption cycle produces 7 ^3 per ton of adsorbents per day of water at the performance ration of 0.3. |
