Description
Summary:Paper Microfluidics or Microfluidics 2.0 looks to make use of inherent properties of the paper and small micrometer sized pore channels for designing lab on a chip and provide advantage over conventional microfluidics in terms of flow and cost. With this dissertation project, I have tried to look into one of the possible applications of the paper microfluidic device. Trial have been made to observe if H-filter paper device can be used for separating and detecting melamine in adulterous milk sample. Two ways of creating delays in transportation of fluids was demonstrated. One of the possible ways to improve the accuracy and usage of dissolvable sugar barriers was also investigated. Separation and Extraction from H-filter has been quantified and results for the unknown concentration of small molecules extracted has been calculated. This was done using standard curve of absorbance and concentration. H-Filter paper device capabilities for detecting melamine in adulterous milk sample was checked and not so promising results were obtained, which suggested that maybe H-filter is not a good choice for this application. UV-Vis spectroscopy has been used as the primary technique for analysis.
