Human motions such as posture, stride length and feet contact will me compared with respect to metabolism aspects such as blood lactate, VO2 and heart rate. Fatigue is often related to the lactate threshold of a person hence motion change in this threshold region could provide a physical method to relate motion and metabolism across various exercise intensity. Method & Approach Here is the setup of the parameters to this study. Subjects have to be males within the age group of 18-28 years old. Subject should also be exercising at a frequency of at least 3 times a week since the focus of this study is to help amateur athletes derive a method to gauge their fatigue/lactate threshold level in training. All subjects will go thru 2 running protocols on the treadmill consecutively. High speed cameras will be recording the subjects to detect changes in motion. First Protocol: Bala VO2 Submaximal (Protocol name in TrueOne 2400 program) Subjects will run at a starting speed of 6km/h for 4 minutes after which rest of 4 minutes will be given. During the rest period, a finger prick test is done to check the subject’s lactate level at that stage. The treadmill speed will then be increased by 0.5km/h & the sequence will repeat until the threshold level is achieved. Second Protocol: Bala VO2 Maximal (Protocol name in TrueOne 2400 program) Subjects will run at a starting speed of 10km/h for 1 minute after which the treadmill speed will increase by 1km/h with no rest. The speed limit is set to 15km/h after which the gradient of the treadmill will be increased at a rate of 2% per minute. Once the subject gives up due to fatigue, a finger prick test will be done to determine lactate level. Results Human motion such as stride length & frequency will be observed as the subject approaches his lactate threshold. Changes in the magnitude or direction of the motion will be observed to conclude if there is indeed a way to link motion and metabolism (fatigue) across exercise intensity.
