Summary: | The square patch antennas with arms for Wireless Power Harvesting applications has
been designed and studied. The antenna designed consists of a square patch with symmetric
and asymmetric configurations in order to check the potential possibilities of getting a better
performance, to improve the radiation pattern and more importantly to enhance the axial ratio.
The structure contains a single feed patch antenna with arms extending from the centre patch
which is designed using the FR-4 substrate. This antenna was designed to create circular
polarization involving a perfectly square patch.
The proposed antenna was designed and simulated using the Computer Simulation
Technology (CST) software. A meticulous parametric study has been undertaken in order to
have a better understanding of the antenna and to optimize each parameter to contribute to the
performance. The designs were fabricated and tested successfully. Measured results and
simulated results of the design are then compared and they are in close approximation to each
other. Measured results satisfy the requirements of the specification. The objective of this
thesis is to analyze, design and fabricate micro-strip square patch antenna used in the wireless
power harvesting application. The measured gain obtained was around 4.2 dBic. Return loss
obtained in all the designs were around +20 dB. The measured axial ratio < 3 dB was
obtained in almost all the directions.
In conclusion, square patch micro-strip antenna with symmetric and asymmetric
configurations of gaps and arm lengths were designed and studied. The antenna has fulfilled
the design specifications suitable for applications of Wireless Power Transmission in the ISM
band. |
