In order to reduce production costs, replacement frequency for cutting tools and the usage of lubricants are factors that can be considered. Hence, the study of shear angle, contact length and material composition will further demonstrate the effectiveness of textured tools as compared to non-textured tools. The aim is to use the least number of experiments to achieve the best results, inducing the Taguchi L9 Orthogonal Array method which will be explained in detail. In this project, the comparisons between micro-textured tools and non-textured tools were done following a series of experiments and data analysis, in hope of further proving that micro-textured tools are indeed more effective compared to non-textured tools. The use of software and high-tech equipment such as the SEM and the INCA will play a huge role in this report. By supporting this claim with concrete evidence coupled with future research in this aspect, hopefully this research can help by eventually leading to savings in production costs.
