Presently, there are three most popular wireless communication technologies including Bluetooth, ZigBee, and Wi-Fi which are adopted in the intelligent home system. In this dissertation, a smart power plug based on Wi-Fi technology is proposed. The objective of this project is to develop a new type smart power plug that adopts Wi-Fi communication technology and optimize its electricity efficiency and functions. This dissertation introduces the analysis of the related systems, the comparison between Bluetooth, ZigBee and Wi-Fi communication technology, the hardware and software design process of the smart power plug and the test result of the prototype. For recognizing the different plugs, this report put forward an effective algorithm. This project used a low-cost UART-Wi-Fi module as the wireless communication module between the smart power plug and the smart gateway for exchanging information. The smart power plug designed in this project can work properly and got the expected result. The remote control and the current collection function has been realized by this smart power plug.
