Description
Summary:As in accordance with the increase in use of energy and environmental problems caused by fossil fuel, the interest in new & renewable energy has been increasing day by day. In the absence of clear solution so far, photovoltaic power plants are the most representative way to produce clean energy without less impart on the environment. Therefore, many governments have introduced various kinds of policies to promote the installation of PV power plants. However, due to the characteristics of the electric energy to be consumed as the same time as the production, the biggest drawback of solar power is the limited production time. To overcome this intermittence, not a traditional energy storage system but the battery energy storage system draws attention of the people. There are several ways to use battery energy storage system. Among these, not a simple storing use, some have a special helpful function to stabilize the electricity grid condition. Therefore, there are many ideas, attempts, researches and policies coming out for the utilization of the BESS not only for residential but also for commercial use. As technology developed, many practical and trial products have been released. Despite these efforts, popular and affordable methodology has not been introduced because of the installation cost of PV panels and batteries. And there are not many realistic methods to apply PV power plants to maximize profit for the utility owner’s point of view. Therefore, in this thesis, optimal energy management schemes have been introduced to maximize the solar power profit with energy storage system under day ahead energy market in South Korea. Introducing the particularities of the Korean Power Exchange market and the Korean government energy policy on new & renewable energy sources, historical data of 3 PV power plants in K-water has been used to estimate the cost and benefit by the proposed operation schemes and system.
