Description
Summary:To date, power electronics play an important role in present and future smart grid systems to achieve integration among clean energy sources and electricity network. And modular multilevel converter is a mature technology which is widely deployed in modern smart grid systems for energy conversion. In this thesis, an application of modular multilevel converter will be introduced and discussed. An embedded modular multilevel converter with energy storage model was developed using MATLAB Simulink simulation software. In addition, this project has proposed several control algorithms to enhance the performance of modular multilevel converters. In order to overcome the intermittency of renewable energy, the MMCs output power control was implemented. In this project, the battery was selected as energy storage to ensure the capability of power delivering from clean energy generation side to the grid. And the battery states of charge equalisations of different scenarios were considered as well.
