Study of solar cell performance under indoor lighting condition

In this final year project, we will carry out some experiments and tests to study 3 different types of commercial PV solar cells’ performance under indoor lighting conditions. Through the research and study of the PV solar cells, it expects to be able to works as a secondary power source in a wirele...

Through the research and study of the PV solar cells, it expects to be able to works as a secondary power source in a wireless sensor circuit. It intends to let the PV solar cells to be able to charge the rechargeable battery in order to reduce the replacement of the battery during the lifetime of the wireless motion sensor circuit under indoor lighting conditions. The three types of PV solar cells are monocrystalline silicon, polycrystalline silicon and amorphous silicon solar cells. Among the three types of commercial solar cells, the efficiency rank from high to low is monocrystalline, polycrystalline and amorphous solar cells, especially at outdoor condition. On the other hand, the experiment conducted under indoor dim light conditions, when the light intensity is less than 200 lux, the amorphous PV solar cells’ performance is better than the crystalline PV solar cell with the same effective area of the cells.
