A hybrid wind/ solar energy converter for household application

Wind and solar energies have good prospects for both isolated load and grid interconnection. These two energy sources also complement each other. Considering the high cost of electrical energy available from these sources, it is worthwhile to economize in its capital cost. An integrated Wind/solar c...

These two energy sources also complement each other. Considering the high cost of electrical energy available from these sources, it is worthwhile to economize in its capital cost. An integrated Wind/solar converter can be very attractive in such a case. This report proposes a hybrid solar / wind energy converter that sum these two sources and supply the net DC energy to a dedicated load. The power circuit model is designed under PSIM Simulation Software. The model includes two major part, wind system and solar system. Under wind system, the simulation circuit is built with AC/DC rectifier, Single-Ended Primary Inductance Converter (SEPIC Converter) and Double Close loop controller. Solar system simulation circuit comprises with PV panel, MPPT controller and Single-Ended Primary Inductance Converter (SEPIC Converter). Lastly, a simple direct charge controller is implemented to detect battery bank voltage for charging purposes and disconnect the battery when it is fully charge. Overall results obtained are deemed acceptable.
