The main natural resources for energy generation such as fossil fuels, coal, oil and natural gas are becoming unreliable for future. It is reported that the total global oil remained at the end of 2010 stands to be at 188.8 million tons, which will only be enough for the next 46.2 years. The importance of energy management stems from the global need which affects legislation, emissions targets and energy prices. With the hiking energy demand and the shortage of resources to produce it, the world may face an energy outage in future. Since the majority of the energy consumption is made by the residential, commercial and industrial buildings, the energy management for building becomes crucial. This final year project develops a BEMS system which can optimize the energy usage within the building. The system is designed to have an automatic control which can also be override by the restricted personnel. The developed model of BEMS can simulate a real-life BEMS system control with the various information gathered from the sensors and command accordingly. Common energy management techniques such as peak clipping, load shifting and valley filling are engaged in this project to enhance the optimization of the energy in the building. The system also includes a graphical user interface (GUI) for the users to monitor, record, manage and control the various loads and renewable energy resources employed in the system.
