As China moves into an era of market-oriented, modernized and globalised economy, Chinese migrant women become an indispensable part of cheap labor. Rural-born female migrant workers hope to gain a brighter prospect in the city through labour work and also desire to find their love in the city. However, restrictions in their rural identity cause the ideal and reality come into contradiction, Chinese urban-rural dualistic social structure sends a dividing line forming cultural, economic and institutional differences, leading to a double alienation of Chinese female migrant workers. This paper, in a new perspective, aims to discuss the dual marginalized identity of migrant women who have experienced a unique marriage and love life. Some migrant workers choose to return to the rural villages, some willing to use their body in exchange with the benefits of goods from global capitalism and some inspired to create a marvellous life with their own hands. This paper analyzes the six different types of love and marriage patterns dominated by Chinese female migrants and the concept of love and marriage is interpreted through personal interviews with migrant women. |
