Despite its huge popularity, the book has met with an equal amount of controversy. Not only was the novel harshly criticized, its readers were also targeted by the same form of distaste. The aim of this thesis is to discuss the relationships between readers and the activities of reading by examining the socio-political context of post-80's and 90's China. Through the analysis of Guo Jingming's work, it will explore the cultural significance of the young adult fiction genre, especially among the younger readers in China. |
