论法家思想对海外华人社会的影响 ：以李光耀执政时期的新加坡为例 = Legalism’s influence in Overseas Chinese communities : a case-study of Lee Kuan Yew’s term as Prime Minister in Singapore

西方社会一直把李光耀形容为一名独裁者。他们也称李光耀是以“亚洲价值观”治国，而且在这套价值观内，人民需要牺牲部分自由权换取政府有效的管理与照顾。本文将反驳西方社会所给予李光耀的批评，为“亚洲价值观”定义。从阐述法家思想与现代意义到分析李光耀任总理时的三项政策，笔者希望找出李光耀与法家的契合之处，以展现法家对海外华人社会的影响。本文也会梳理华人移民的历史，从海外华人参与地方政治以及管理华人社群内的各个组织的方式，总结出李光耀施政手法与海外华人管理各个组织的相同之处。Lee Kuan Yew has always been criticised the West as an authoritarian. The West has also claimed that Lee Kuan Yew has governed Singapore by using “Asian Values”, sacrificing a bit of democracy for a well-governed and efficient state. This dissertation aims to rebut the West’s accusations that Lee Kuan Yew is an authoritarian and define the term “Asian Values”, which encompasses the key concepts of Legalism. By explaining what Legalism is and by analysing three of Lee Kuan Yew’s policies during his tenure as Prime Minister, the author hopes to show the impact of Legalism on Overseas Chinese communities. By drawing links to the history of Chinese migration, the author wishes to show the similarities between Lee Kuan Yew’s style of leadership and how Overseas Chinese communities were managed in the past.
