Through the use of ecological modernisation as a framework, I argue that the state’s primary focus on economic development and technocracy often compromises the scope of green initiatives and hinder individual efforts. Further, the restrictive political economy in Singapore hinders the use of contentious politics. As such, this study proposes that veg*ans in Singapore may negotiate the restrictive political economy through a form of bottom-up environmentalism that is carried out primarily at the individual level.
