Kao Yan’s English Test consists of several parts, such as fill in the blank, reading comprehension, reorganising paragraphs, translating from English to Chinese, email writing and essay writing. It requires students to have a strong foundation of vocabulary and the understanding of passage. And the only way to improve the performance is through practice consistently. The purpose of this project is for students to study and practice Kao Yan’s English Test by themselves. This project involves three important parts: A Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT), which allows students to practice vocabulary, sentence structure and tenses. An English-to-Chinese Comprehension practice, which allows students to practice the understanding of closed passage. And Contest, whereby the teacher or the admin can create a contest from different categories based on the difficulty levels, and students can take part in the contest. In order to grade the CAT and Contest, a system of Multiple-Choice-Questions is implemented, students are allowed to choose one correct answer from the four given options. And a final report regards to the student’s performance will be generated by the system after the student has finished the CAT. And to grade the translation, the correctness of the sentence structure, syntactic and the semantic meaning of the translation will be checked.
