Summary: | The technological advancement of surveillance systems has successfully replaced labor surveillance. Given its reliability, affordability of memory space and clear surveillance footage, users are able to view the footage clearly and at any time. Moreover, surveillance footage could be used as digital evidence for various misconducts such as physical theft crime and for observing the activities of monitored targets. As most of the surveillance systems available currently are mounted in a fixed position, this means that more than one visual surveillance device has to be employed to cover loopholes of the surveillance system known as the "blind spot", i.e. the areas that are beyond the surveillance circumference of the system.
In this project, a mobile close distance surveillance robot will be designed with the intention to eliminate the usage of multiple surveillance devices under the budget of $250. The mobile surveillance system features a motion detection function and commences recording upon detected motion. In order to ease the configuration and monitoring process, the mobile surveillance system was designed to be controlled via a web browser and be used by a wide range of electronic devices. Apart from that, using a web browser as controller overcame the compatibility issues faced across different devices and platforms such as Android OS, Window OS, iOS, and Mac OS X, to name a few, and improved the cumbersome software and application installation. |
