Summary: | This paper studies the shifting position of the novel in digital culture with The Gutenberg Parenthesis as a larger framework. Using Steven Hall's The Raw Shark Texts as a site of investigation, we look at how the novel employs the technique of graphic experimentation, and interweaving of various multimedia into its narrative, so as to stay competent in an electronic era. Then, the argument that digital technologies will soon cause the death of the novel finds itself displaced by the notion that they in fact liberalize the novel, and even enhance it. |
