Summary: | Home automation technologies have been increasingly popular among modern homes recently, owing to the staggering array of tasks that such systems can assist us with. With the rapid surge of aging population in Singapore, home automation technologies can be a powerful ally in providing elderly care and enhancing the living conditions of elderlies.
With the considerations of the issues and challenges that elderlies face, the project explores various technologies in achieving a multi-functional system that aims to resolve the limitations that elderlies residing alone may encounter.
The overall system is realised by a core controller working collectively with 5 different modules, the electrical appliances control module, home security and home access control module, infra-red appliance control module, safety monitoring via motion detection module and gas and smoke detection module. An android application is also developed to complement and provide overall control of the home automation system.
The system grants elderlies, as well as elderlies with limited mobility or disabilities, the ability to operate various appliances and devices from anywhere within the home. The implemented system also empowers users by bringing home security and access control to their fingertips. The elderlies also benefit from the safety aspect of the system, with different modules catering to their personal wellbeing, as well as mitigation of potential fire hazards. |
