Summary: | In recent years, the world’s ageing population has become a global issue that every country in the world is experiencing. This results a growth in the number of older person in their population. Hence, it leads to a decline in the working-age population and increased health care costs which would undermine the high living standard enjoyed in many advanced economies. [1] For instance, in Singapore, elderly people aged 65 and older form 13.1 percent of the citizen population as of Jun 2015, according to report released by the National Population and Talent Division on Sept 30, 2015. [2] Thus, silver games are built and introduced to the elderly to help them with their coordination as they got to use their eyes and fingers to play the games. These games act as a form of mental exercise where it improves the cognitive abilities and mental wellbeing of the elderly. Researchers at the University of California had also found out that elderly who played silver games, had improved their multitasking abilities compared to those 20-year-olds playing the game for the first time. [3]
With silver games developed for the elderly, it will prevent them from being diagnose with diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and other elderly diseases. For elderly who had already diagnosed with such diseases, silver games will act as a form of rehabilitation for them to prevent their condition from worsening. [4] However, games are just one piece which will work with other things such as physical exercise and nutrition. Thus, there is a need for a web-based application to exist so that the relevant data will be captured and analysed accordingly. For instance, a web-based application is needed to store the performance of the elderly’s game play for visualization and analysis purpose.
This project focuses on the implementation of a web-based application named Lily Basketball Game that is used for health-care data visualization and analysis. This application allows the doctors to keep track of his/her patient’s medical information which includes the results of their game play. With that, the doctors will be able to design a suitable plan with specific movements that the patient could work on to improve their condition. Filter functions are also implemented in the patient management’s page to allow easy management and updates of the user’s information.
Besides the functionalities stated, having a user-friendly website will bring convenience to the non-technical users which are the doctors, patients and their families’ members as it has clearer workflow. In addition, a well-designed database and architecture will be needed to eliminate data redundancy, ensure data integrity and accuracy. Moreover, it will enable easy future development, if any. Thus, this web-based application can be used and make contribution to the industry. |
