Summary: | This paper discusses on the role that religion plays in shaping ones perception of the ideal family, in terms of its structure, and its purpose in society. The importance and influence of religion and family also plays a part in social reproduction, in which the state seeks to align with its own state ideologies. By utilizing social influences such as media, education or religion, the state can exercise control over various aspects of society. One such example is how Singapore frames the ideal family to promote population growth and to provide privileges to the traditional family, at the expense of other non-traditional types like single parents, and at the same time establish control in the sphere of homosexuality and same-sex marriage. |
