Summary: | The ever-growing energy needs of the world has led to the expansion in size and complexity of the electric power system. This has put pressure on the simulation technologies that energy utilities companies and researchers have been using to design and study electric power systems. The real-time digital simulator hardware has to be upgraded continuously in order to meet the increasing demand for higher computational power to execute real-time simulation for larger and more complex power systems. This method of studying and understanding the functions and performance of electric power systems is cost effective and convenient. The process of converting a Simulink power system model to a RT-Lab model for real-time simulation is presented. A 23- bus transmission network is used for modelling and simulation purposes and modifications were done to the RT-Lab model to improve user interaction during real-time simulation. Lastly, some conditions were introduced to the model so as to study the reactions and the effect of the local controllers for the synchronous generators. |
