Summary: | Singapore is currently facing aging population. With the growing aging population, the need for health assistance will be a greater concern. Health assistance like medicine intake and follow-up care are vital to the elderly. A wrong intake or missed medical appointment may be fatal to them.
With the rise in need of eldercare in Singapore, the role of the caregiver has become more essential. Much of the caregiver day-to-day activities requires manually monitoring of the elderly. However, they may have multiple elderlies to care for and not be able to monitor all of them at once. Therefore, there is a need to automate such process between the interaction and monitoring of caregivers to elderly.
Furthermore, there is a high trend of elderly adopting technology in Singapore. With advances of the internet of things (IoT) in the last decade, the use of various technologies such as smartphones, smartwatches and NFCs technology, will assist in the tracking and monitoring of the elderly’s health.
The Proposed System consists of 4 parts. A centralised web service API that will be used as a communication medium between various devices and to allow processing and persistent storage to be done on a server.
A web portal will be used by the caregiver for management of the elderlies. It allows them to track their elderlies, schedule medicine intake, manage medicine QR/NFC tags, schedule reminders such as appointments, monitoring of their health chart which consists of heart-rate graph and medicine record intake, and lastly to check on any notification such as elderly medicine missed.
A Chrome Application that will allow the caregivers to Tag/Read NFC Tags. It will be connected to the caregiver’s personal computer. The Chrome Application will be cross-platform compatible with Windows, MacOS and Linux.
A mobile application that will be used by both the caregivers and elderly. The elderly will use it to automate the tracking of their location, tagging of medicine taken, reminding of their day to day activities and sending of SOS emergency request to their caregivers. The elderly’s phone will also be connected to a smart-band for monitoring of their health status. The caregiver will use the mobile application as a more portable way of monitoring the elderly with almost similar feature on the web platform and Chrome Application. |
