description |
The design of wheelchairs has come a long way from its humble beginnings as furniture on wheels to
the modern day electric powered wheelchair. Today, there exists a wide range of wheelchairs catering to a
broad spectrum of physical disabilities and they have improved the lives of disabled persons around the
world. However, wheelchair designs have largely focused on functionality, with less emphasis on the other
equally important aspects of aesthetics and usability.
The aim of this project is to design a powered wheelchair that not only facilitates the performance of
daily tasks by the disabled thus enabling them to live independently, but also offers improved aesthetics to
reduce the stigma associated with wheelchair use. |
