It has been studied and explored into continuously since it first emerged in the market due to its potential for opening more possibilities in the technological world. The ability to search the web with images makes searches more conveniently plausible and information more efficiently acquired. With also the increasing trend of reliance on mobile phone nowadays, mobile devices with cameras and internet access provide the best environment for visual search engines to work. In this final year project, it works towards the development of a vertical application. The mobile phone application proposed aims to assist and enhance children aged 11 to 12 in their learning process through the use of mobile visual search engine. It is targeted specifically at Primary 5 and Primary 6 Science Students of Singapore. The application will provide the children with relevant, filtered information of the items they searched for from their textbooks. At the same time, to encourage good self-learning habits outside of their classroom curriculum, this application serve as an aided platform for them to start learning that they can learn more on their own. Hence, with the visual search functionality, these children can be attracted to use the application since it is more interactive, learn better and absorb more. At the same time, the gap between the physical and digital world can be narrowed and user’s experiences will be enhanced.
