The different soil layers and types are challenges faced as different types of soil have different characteristics. Such characteristics are the coefficients of consolidation, water content, effective stresses etc. The soil type usually present below seabed is the marine clay, which is a very weak clay compared to normal soil. Thus, this usually makes land reclamation more time consuming and difficult to carry out. The land reclamation procedures require a lot of in-situ testing before carrying out. One such procedure before reclaiming the land is the use of a test fill. Test fills can be used to gauge the effectiveness of some methods, for example, the effectiveness of vertical sand drains or other types of synthetic drains. From knowing the effectiveness of such methods, it can be applied to the other parts of the land reclamation project to speed up the completion. The analyses were based on the application of the VDrainSt programme and the use of other Microsoft Excel functions to obtain the results required. Different methods were used to obtain the settlement of the ground to see the difference in errors if there were any. There were problems along the way and countermeasures to prove that the VDrainSt programme could not be applied to all situations. Other methods of analysis were not investigated.
