| Summary: | 《寻。启》From Routes to Roots: Seeking the Hainanese Roots through Installation Art was inspired by a collection of resurfaced mementos, uncovering the ambiguous identity of my late paternal grandfather. As I embarked on my maiden journey to Hainan Island in search of the hometown of my grandfather, this project unfolded as I explored and documented the woven relationships between my cultural and genealogical roots as a Hainanese, with ideas of place attachment via artifacts. With ethnographic research, the final deliverables will be presented in the form of an art installation and a set of designed publication. The artwork seeks to stir its’ audience’s curiosity to go on a similar journey in finding their ethnic roots and to discover something new within themselves. |
