Description
Summary:This project uses the concept of modular design together with Modular Function Deployment to design and fabricate a compact loading system that is compatible with the d’polariscope and hyperspectral polariscope. While the existing compact loading system is sufficiently compact, it is difficult for the operator to apply the exact required force on the specimen, and the results for tensile loading are inaccurate. This limits the studies on a material’s optical properties to only in the case of compressive loading. With the new compact loading system, calibration can be carried on both the d’polariscope and hyperspectral polariscope, and, also provide accurate data on 2-point compression loading. The new compact loading system would be able to provide a more accurate calibration of the polariscope before any tests are being carried out. Due to budget constraints, the new loading system could only be fabricated with the capacity for 2-point compression loading.
