Studies have shown that the high population density is related to high transport usage. This has led to the urban transport planners to plan and build a comprehensive transport network to meet the needs of the economy, as well as the increasing demand of the motorized vehicles. This report sets out to understand the strategies adopted by the Government of Singapore to provide the public with an efficient and sustainable transport system, and also to investigate whether the rail transit service is financially sustainable in Ang Mo Kio. It aims to understand how the implementation of ‘Walking and Cycling Town’ will affect the ridership. The report addressed the recent concern on environment effect caused by the motorised vehicles and the measures taken to introduce cycling as a green and sustainable transportation. It also examines how Taiwan has encouraged cycling and the lessons learnt from them, which can be applied to Singapore.
