Flow resistance of vegetated sediment bed

Vegetations are often used in rivers and streams to help as a control with bank stability and also a potential solution to reduce the impact from dissolved and particulate material. The amount of vegetation can have a significant effect on the channel flow and transportation of sediments. The quanti...

The amount of vegetation can have a significant effect on the channel flow and transportation of sediments. The quantity of vegetation in the channel may cause an increase in the frictional resistance of the flow. The experiment carried out shows how the presence of vegetation can affect the Manning’s roughness coefficient (n) in a channel. The roughness of the channel with vegetation were determined from the experiment results and compared against the result for channel without vegetation. The results obtained from the experiment also shows the relationship between the flow velocity and the roughness coefficient.
