Description
Summary:In the effort to promote Car-lite in Singapore, various attempts have been made to provide more walking and cycling infrastructures to create integrated cycling paths, thus creating a seamless journey for the commuters from their homes to the public transport network. Bike-sharing systems have also been made available earlier this year to encourage Bike and Ride scheme. By doing so, it is hoped there will be mode shift from automobile to public transport. Thus the purpose of this Final Year Project Report is to investigate the effectiveness of recently implemented walking and cycling town in Ang Mo kio (AMK) in encouraging public transport usage. Various factors affecting transportation mode choice are studied and case study from Munich and possible improvements from other countries are also discussed in order to improve on the approaches to pull people in Singapore to cycling. Survey was conducted among AMK residents to explore their perceptions of walking and cycling town and public transport.
