Summary: | The human hearing sensory system is a complex yet beautiful network that we rely on in
our everyday lives. We are able to assimilate all the different frequencies of the vibrations
in air and conjure it into a mixture of sounds at any given time, for example, the operating
train that is a mile away along with the birds chirping and the song that is playing on the
radio, all these vibrations at once. Apart of all these sounds that shape the soundscape of
the ecosystem we are living in, the human ear is particularly sensitive to a speech like
sound due to our evolutionary traits.
We are heavily dependent on speech as our mode of communication in our life. Which is
why and led to the digitization of the audio speech signals for global consumption as a form
of communicating internationally. Important technological advances in the field of audio
has been growing rapidly throughout the modern era. Engineers, researchers and scientists
began to work on applications like digital signal processing, audio data compression and
speech processing, which led us to the advancement of audio engineering we are exposed
to in our daily lives today.
In this report, we will look into different functions that affects and manipulates audio
speech signal. Mathematical functions of speech coding techniques were demonstrated
and computed with MATLAB. For better visualization and understanding the input and
output signals, several graphical plots were used in this project. Domains of graphical
representation used in this project are mainly, the time domain and frequency domain. |
