It explores the theme of siblings rivalry through the perspective of the older sister, Kaitlyn, who felt neglected and jealous of the arrival of her new baby sister, Kayla. By picturing baby Kayla as a monster serves a very important purpose of exaggerating Kaitlyn’s imagination and is an interpretation of how children see the world around them. At the same time, it achieves the effect of portraying the jealousy and unhappiness Kaitlyn has towards her sister without making it too harsh and overboard. As Kaitlyn reflects on her time spent with her monstrous baby sister, she slowly realizes that she loves her sister more than she thought. The word ‘Monster’ then becomes a term of endearment.
