Summary: | A team that comprises of individuals coming from diverse backgrounds is predominant in this day and age. Organizations are increasingly making use of such diverse teams in accomplishing tasks. Thus, it is paramount to examine the effects of such ubiquitous use of culturally diverse teams on team effectiveness. This literature review will first conceptualize the idea of cultural diversity, followed by three theoretical perspectives that are significant in diversity research. Subsequently, this literature review will examine the effects of cultural diversity on three aspects of team effectiveness: team performance, team creativity and team satisfaction. In each aspect, we review the processes underlying the relationship as well as the influence of mediators and moderators. This review will then end with a discussion on the implications of the effects of cultural diversity on team effectiveness and the limitations and promising approaches for future research. |
