Facial Action Coding System is now one of state-of-the-art method in the world. It was first proposed by Paul Ekman and Wallace V. Friesen in 1976 and then revised in 2002. At first, previous researches related are briefly introduced with respect. Then a detail analysis of Facial Action Coding System is given, outlining the development and defining of Facial Action Coding System, and how to apply it. Next other facial expression recognition techniques are listed and compared to FACS. At last, an introduction towards emotions and current databases are given to help understand comprehensively.
