Summary: | Singapore is moving towards being a smart nation, leveraging on technology to improve people’s quality of life and economic well-being. Students are encouraged to start learning programming from young. There are many resources and mobile phone development platforms available for students to learn independently. This project first examined existing research on the teaching and learning of programming. Such studies suggest that students without programing background often find it difficult to learn and prefer customised reference materials as well as personal help. Pair programming has proven that students can produce better results when working together rather than individually. In this project, a basic shopping application was developed to teach students basic functions of Android Studio and Firebase database. Alongside the application, a manual has been prepared to guide students on the development of an Android application in 48 hours. Students without programming background can be expected to learn how to use Android Studio to design the user interface while students with other programming background can proceed to write the Java class and debug the program. |
