Summary: | This project aims to study and model common household appliances, namely a
refrigerator model suitable for exploring Demand Response Management (DRM) to
reduce energy consumption and costs through control of the different load consumption.
This is an effective strategy as additional fossil fuels are required for extra spinning
reserves to overcome the intermittency of renewable energy. In addition, it reduces the
dependency on Energy Storage Devices (ESD) and is effective in supplementing the
ESD. This results in a reduction in operating costs.
The refrigerator model was chosen as it has a high time constant and is a common load
with high power consumption in Singapore. It is highly suitable for feasible control with
DRM strategies. In this project, LABVIEW software application was used to develop the
model and the simulation. Studies were also done for in depth understanding of ESD,
DRM, spinning reserves. The refrigerator model was mathematically modelled and
verified. |
