Description
Summary:This research was focused on testing Lithium ion battery at different temperature using Silicon as the anode. Lithium ion battery testing and research has been extensively increasing in the recent years. There is also a huge demand to make the batteries lighter, cheaper and less toxic. The focus has also shifted to make it more safer after the recent Samsung Note 7 recall because of the battery explosion. For this project, the first step was to make the coin cells. To make the coin cell, there is a need to make the electrodes first with the right components such as Silicon, Carbon black and the right binder. After making the coin cell, it went through formation at 0.1C. It was then tested at different temperatures ( 25°C and 50°C) at 0.5C for 20 cycles. After the 20 cycles, the project was concluded by investigating how silicon anode reacts with Lithium.
