Description
Summary:This report present a design of a conformal antenna with end-fire radiation. The design is based on low profile log-periodic monopole array antenna which are vertically polarized. It consists of 21 elements and a microstrip feeding line which provides a 180⁰ phase shift between each element. The monopoles antennas have a variation in height for the high frequency region while the middle frequency region has monopole antennas of the same height but loaded with top hat of different sizes to achieve the required resonant frequencies. At the low frequency region, the design is like the middle frequency region but each top-hat is folded. A wideband transmission is provided from a coaxial line to the microstrip line designed for the antenna feed providing an inter-element of 180⁰ phase shift. A prototype has been designed and tested through simulation. Simulation results show that an impedance bandwidth from 2 to 18 GHz (9:1) for VSWR < 2.1 and a gain better than 8dBi over the same operating frequency.
