Ltd. Information Management Research Centre DRNTU::Engineering::Electrical and electronic engineering In the modern world, technologies are hugely part of everything in our life today. Automobiles these days are equipped with different software and control systems that aid a safer and efficient journey. There are many different communication protocols that are in charge of the connection between different electronic controls units (ECUs). With these different protocols, the automobiles are vulnerable to hackers who want to sabotage and take over system. Malicious activities and side channel attacks may intervene during the communication. All these could greatly affects the safety of the driver, passengers and other people around them. Therefore, in this report, we will be discussing on the different communication protocols and different cryptography methods to be implemented to the ECUs. We will then use CodeWarrior software to do coding on encryption, decryption and authentication on the ECU boards and gateway board. The purpose of these is to minimise and avoid attacks during the communication of the ECU boards in the vehicle so that everything could work smoothly and most importantly ensure safety in the automobiles.
